Some of the most thought-provoking and original games on the E3 show floor were tucked away in a nearly hidden corner of the PlayStation booth.
Through its Pub Fund initiative, Sony is reaching out to indie game creators and giving them the development support they need to make their bold new ideas into more fleshed-out, commercially viable games. This in turn helps grow the PlayStation 3′s catalog of unique exclusive games. Coming out of E3, we were quite impressed with titles like The Unfinished Swan, Papo & Yo and Dyad.
[E3] is a little bit out of focus with reality, I think. There's never been so many indie successes, and people are still trying to do the same old thing with more money and more boobs.
Check out this Destructoid blog post chock-full of delicious Cave Story-related goodness, including details on future Steam updates (leaderboards!) and an upcoming (a month!) eShop release, as well as a good word on Wii U development and system power. Unfortunately, this pretty good news comes off the heels of some pretty bad news: La Mulana, the retro indie Metroidvania-adventure-platformer that Nicalis intended to publish on WiiWare, has been canceled, though a self-published PC release is still in the works by the developer, and you can still download the original freeware release.
