Japan-exclusive game

Games that were never officially released outside Japan. Titles are not made available for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Being deemed a financial risk (therefore not worth the cost of localization ahd publishing), either determined from poor sales of similar titles/past titles in a series or simply due to content/fanbase size
  • Licensing issues with content (eg too many rights holders, companies unwilling to license their content, too high a price being asked and so on)
  • Content being obscure/hard to localize to a western audience, especially when the developer/creator is unknown outside Japan
  • Games based on popular television/film/other franchises from Japan that have little to no following elsewhere
