After leaving Square in 1998, Yasunori Mitsuda began to work indepdendently, and decided to form a company to produce his music. In November 2001 he formed Procyon Studio, along with record label Sleigh Bells which first released Tsugunai – an cinniùint the next month.

As Mitsuda owns most of the music he created after leaving Square he is able to re-arrange and re-release many of the work without seeking copyright from any game company. While his work on Chrono Trigger, Front Mission: Gun Hazard, Xenogears, Mario Party and some tracks from Sailing to the World are not owned by him, his work on Chrono Cross is, along with all other music1.

Company Growth

While the company initially began as a company involving only himself as composer, it has since drawn in a number of other composers seeking indepdendence from game developers and as of May 2012 has 9 other composers employed. Having now grown, Procyon Studio offers a number of services including music composition, sound effect design, voice recording, sound manipulation, sound mixing, sound direction, sound programming and sheet music. The company also has a recording studio for music, voice and sound capabable of recording in 5.1 and 3DTV formats2.

This environment allows the company to take on work through any individual or group of composers present without the need to rely on a developer to provide services or designate other locations and staff - the company is able to be self-sufficient and therefore truely independent.

Sleigh Bells Record Label

Mitsuda's record label has been used to independently release a number of albums either of original creation or that would otherwise remain unreleased.

Releases are:

Categories & Concepts
  1. Procyon Studio - Regarding Songs by Yasunori Mitsuda (English)

  2. Procyon Studio - Services (Japanese)
