I've been bored playing WC3 and getting pissed-off at how hard Valkyria Chronicles is getting at the very end. Summer movies have kind of sucked. Summer gaming news and releases has kind of sucked (lately). I did finish a book yesterday. One I was recommended to read by this forum, so I'll post about that. News is lame. And I am getting pissed off at Moon Landing deniers.
Hey that's a coincidence, I've been playing WC3 too. I beat it and now I'm on the first mission of the Blood Elves in TFT. It's really fun going through this story again especially since I'm currently in the middle of the aftermath in WoW (dealing with the Lich King and all that), and especially nice to see well-crafted dialogue and well-directed cutscenes as opposed to the pseudo-epic MMO-friendly crap they have in WoW sometimes.
If you're curious I can tell you what's going on btw, it's a pretty interesting storyline but currently it's at a crossroads where depending on what they do it'll suck (the easy MMO cash-in), or be awesome (doing something new).
Yeah, I'm playing Warcraft III too. It's HUGE in China, and all the Chinese kids are always egging me on to play with them but they're really good so I've needed to practice lately. Campaigns are really well crafted in terms of dialogue and cinematics, as Rahul said. It's really a very impressive game.
Supposedly Drag Me To Hell was pretty good?
Anyway, he did all the Evil Dead movies, including Army of Darkness, so that's +1 from me. Sure, he also did Spider-Man, all three of which sucked, but you know, if Blizzard say they've found their guy after seriously thinking about it and talking to him, they get the benefit of the doubt from me. What's more, I guess they have a point in that he can successfully take an existing universe and convert it to a winning formula that reaches out to mainstream audiences' tastes while respecting the original material.
So I guess we'll see what happens.
The real question is: WTF is the movie going to be about?
I have been playing custom games online predominantly. I beat the campaign of RoC over two years ago, but I got stuck in the first campaign of TFT, haven't really gone back since. Maybe I should....
As for the WoW movie, I don't have high hopes. Raimi is a pretty good director. I really like Army of Darkness. And I thought Spider-Man 2 was great. However I just can't see this movie succeeding. My best guess is that the script will suck. The story in WC3 is fantastic. But when you think about it, just a few of those missions could make a movie. Except you'd have no back story, little character development, and no logical conclusion. It takes quite a length of time in game to flesh out characters in the game. I just don't see how they could make a good movie out of it. A stupid action flick, sure. But good, not really.
There's a lot of potential for additional script and dialogue and character growth though. Arthas' story is one of growth (backwards, but whatever), and the characters he interacts with go through a lot too. Anub'arak would be great to see considering his bitterness towards the Lich King. Thrall obviously has a great story that you can really flesh out if you look at the books.
But then I heard they're going to be telling a story with new characters, so maybe all of this is pointless speculation. And since the movie won't release until 2012 or so, Arthas will be ancient history then. We'll all be like level 110 in WoW, fighting some nebulous tentacle gods on Xoroth or something.
let me rephrase that: I WAS working at EA. I was working for Mythic on Warhammer Online, but my contract ended, but I put in a good solid year there. Because prospects in the gaming industry are slim on the east coast I moved to LA, and am currently (still) looking for employment
