Super Mario Bros. is the story of a working-class Italian plumber from Brooklyn out to rescue the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, a land filled with pipes growing from the ground, brick blocks and flashing question marks suspended in mid-air, and suspicious cloud-shaped bushes. Standing in his path are walking chestnuts, giant venus flytraps, a never-ending stream of spiky bugs tossed down by a cloud-riding poindexter, and a maniacal spiked snapping turte. The plumber's arsenal consists of mushrooms that make him grow twice his size, flowers which cause balls of fire to erupt from his fists, and earthbound stars that make him invincible.1
