Everyone thought Bowser had left the Mushroom Kingdom until his doom ship attacked. King Koopa had returned with the greatest danger ever known: his Koopa Kids! Using their new super powers, help the Super Mario Brothers rescue Princess Toadstool and beat the evil Koopa family.

Super Mario Bros. 3 (スーパーマリオブラザーズ3) is a platformer developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and is the third game in the Super Mario series.

The game centers on the quest of Mario and Luigi to save the rulers of seven kingdoms from Bowser, the series' antagonist. The two brothers must travel across eight worlds to restore order to the Mushroom World. It built on the game play of previous Mario games by introducing new power-ups that augment character abilities, and established conventions that were carried over to future games in the series.

Trivia
  • Prior to its North American release, game play footage from Super Mario Bros. 3 appeared in the Universal Studios film The Wizard, which helped fuel its fans' anticipation.

News & Blogs

There are at least two timelines on the Internet that put the major Super Mario games in chronological order, as if they happened to one guy named Mario who has been living an extraordinary life.

These timeline don't present Mario as a real man. The people who make these timelines aren't that free-thinking. But the makers of Mario timelines have asked questions that most people have lived their lives without asking, questions like: Does Super Mario Bros. 3 really take place after Super Mario Bros. 2?

Is Yoshi's Island included in the 3DS "ambassador" package?

BlogSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is a true masterpiece. Everything comes together so nicely -- style, music, gameplay, level design -- to make it one of the very best platform games in the midst of a golden age of platformers. That the GBA re-release would be included in the "ambassador" package of 20 games given to current 3DS owners who payed $80 too much for their systems gave at least some small level of solace.

But will Yoshi's Island be included? Read on

The idea for the Tanooki suit [in Super Mario Bros. 3] came from wanting to put a tail on Mario. We wanted to use tail for spin move as an attack. But we thought, well, we've got this great tail now, can't we do anything with it? So we added a flutter motion was like a propeller... once we started doing that, it felt so good we said, well, let's just make him fly!
