Treasure Hunter G: Original Sound Version summary

The combined efforts of seven composers round out the whole of Treasure Hunter G, Square's last game for the Super Famicom, making the soundtrack something of a mixed bag. A composer by the unfortunate name of John Pee contributes some fun and imaginative tracks like "My Rural Town" and "As Immovable as a Mountain." Fans of the Ogre Battle and Tactics series will recognize the familiar sounds of Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata in this soundtrack. Tunes like Sakimoto's "Rain On The Magahaman Peninsula" and Iwata's "Shameful Daizaburou" sound much like a 16-bit prototype for the Final Fantasy Tactics score, and the CD soundtrack continues in the tradition of Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre of providing enhanced quality MIDI tracks alongside the original tunes for Iwata and Sakimoto's pieces only. While somewhat cutesy, Treasure Hunter G has its moments, and is worth a listen for fans of 16-bit era game music.
