Akihiko Matsui

A Producer, Game Director and Battle Planner for Square Enix and (formerly) Square

Akihiko Matsui worked on the battle systems of Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy V before co-directing Chrono Trigger along with Yoshinori Kitase and Takashi Tokita. He then worked on Saga Frontier as game data developer and later worked on the game and system design of Legend of Mana.

On September 1, 2010 he stepped up as director of Final Fantasy XI only to depart three months later to begin work on the combat design of Final Fantasy XIV. During the Final Fantasy XIV culling in December 2010, Matsui was promoted to lead combat designer1.

On the 24th of June, 2012 Hiromichi Tanaka Famitsu announced his departure from Square Enix due to illness, and Matsui became producer of Final Fantasy XI23. He therefore part of the group of staff re-launching Final Fantasy XIV while at the same time having additional workload from XI.
