Jean-Paul "JP" LeBreton majored in computer art at Savannah College of Art and Design with the intention of becoming an artist, but found he was better at level design. He joined Irrational Games to work on Bioshock and later moved to 2K Marin to work as the lead level designer of Bioshock 2.12 He later joined Double Fine Productions and became lead designer of The Cave, working alongside Ron Gilbert.
In the 2012 Amnesia Fortnight, LeBreton pitched Spacebase DF-9, a social simulation game where the player builds a sprawling flotilla-city in space. The player can see the relationships of the alien inhabitants play out in often unexpected ways. The pitch became the second-most voted title, and therefore was chosen by the public to be made into a prototype.
