It's not actually possible to explain the effect the Phantom's website Flash intro movie and accompanying narration has on you when you view it, so we suggest you head on over and experience it for yourself. It's worth it, trust us.

For one-on-one games, the ability to talk to your opponent is not necessarily a good thing. When I first went online with "Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO," a $40 martial arts combat game, I began to randomly select cartoon characters for my team. When I tried to establish contact with my human opponent, the first words I heard were: "You picked Kyo. He's gay. And so are you."1
Gamefront reports that the next issue of Japanese magazine Dengeki will feature a 40 page complete walkthrough for Final Fantasy X-2. The issue is scheduled to appear on March 28. News from Japan suggests that FFX-2 can be completed in several different ways, a feature widely hailed by critics of the series' longtime linearity.1
C&VG's forums have a popular thread up where some fanboy claims to have inside info that Nintendo has bought the rights to Final Fantasy's 1 through 9 and plans to develop 1 through 6 on GBA and 7 through 9 on GC. Ludicrous? Rumour.1
First we report that Square shipped 1.8 million copies of Final Fantasy X-2 to retailers for its Japanese launch, which seemed like a ludicrous number; now we hear they sold 1.2 million of them on the actual day. Good lord.1
Page 4 of IGN's "Upcoming PS2 games of 2003" feature (which we did like, two issues ago, slowpokes!) mentions that we can expect a Chrono Break or Chrono Crisis in 2004. It's totally speculatory but at least it's nice to see a larger site like IGN acknowledge the rumours.1
Final Fantasy X-2 launched today in Japan with customers queueing up as early as midnight and one store getting smart and opening early to attract more potential consumers. Square has shipped 1.8 million copies of the game all over Japan, obviously expecting it to do pretty well.1
Masashi Hamauzu is easily becoming one of my favorite Square composers, and is really putting Square's sound team in a fantastic position. Go back an entire 5 years before he wow-ed us with his work on Final Fantasy X and Unlimited SaGa and you find the brilliant gem that is the Chocobo no Fushigina Dungeon Original Soundtrack. From what I've heard, the game itself is horrible - and never did get released here in the United States (while Chocobo Dungeon 2 did.) You'll even find the now famous Chocobo tune reiterated yet again on this album, but as usual, taking on an even newer sound with the help of an entire orchestra on the album's Prelude track. It should be noted that the two orchestrated tracks were conducted by Koji Hajima. Once again, another game soundtrack you can play from start to finish even if you haven't played the game.
According to Quiter, Square has delayed the release of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles as a result of development issues with the battle system. The delay, however, is under scrutiny and Square Haven blames the French because it's always their fault when something shitty happens.1
Nintendo has stately announced that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker has already sold an excess of 560,000 copies in North America, surpassing the number of times I have had intercourse with your mom. The Wind Waker is "the most anticipated video game in Electronics Boutique's history," according to EB reps, surpassing pre-sales of last year's GTA: Vice City. To date, worldwide sales of The Legend of Zelda series have surpassed 36 million software units.1
Square has set the release date for Hanjuku Hero VS 3D in Japan for sometime in June 2003. The title will not be coming overseas.1
Final Fantasy X-2, which launches tomorrow in Japan, was reviewed by Dengeki PS2 and Famitsu PS2, receiving an 345/400 (90/85/95/75) and 35/40 (9/9/8/9) respectively. Other points of interest were the funky-lookin' PN03, which walked away with a disappointing 7/10, Soul Calibur 2 which took the lead this week with an 8,6 from Dorimaga, and Made in Wario, which Famitsu PS2 gave 35/40 also.1
Visitors to the Tsutaya chain of stores on Thursday the 13th of March, when Final Fantasy X-2 is released, will be able to walk away with not only the game, but some sort of small gift. I'm hoping hotpants.1
Dixons, a major European retailer for console hardware and software (comparable to the likes of Electronics Boutique in NA, for example) are dropping the Nintendo Gamecube from their shelves as soon as stock runs out, ultimately fucking Nintendo up the ass just before they release key strategic elements such as the online adapter, Metroid, and Zelda.1
BlogSo today Cradle of Filth released their new album Damnation & A Day, a symphonic black metal epic about the fall of Satan from Heaven, using a 40 piece orchestra and 20 piece choir, published by Sony Music UK. There's also nothing happening in the game industry. Go figure.
Capcom today revealed Onimusha 3, says Gamefront, which isn't surprising considering Capcom will probably go as far as Onimusha 278 Alpha Ex Winter Edition Plus before they give up, but the interesting fact is that Jean Reno co-stars. Say that with me again: "Jean Reno in a samurai game".1
This morning was a media frenzy as Bloomberg first reported that the PS3 was supposedly being readied for release in a matter of months, and then retracted all that after actually contacting Sony to verify. Fun!
This is the theme song for Final Fantasy X-2 sung by Kouda Kumi. The second track on the disc is a seperate single by the artist to attract fans of her music in preparation of release of her album in late March, 2003.
This new scan from Japanese mag V-Jump shows more similarities between recently revealed character Lenne and Yuna; namely, they seem to have a thing for handsome blondes: Dark Tidus?
