Tactics Ogre returning on PSP

After a lengthy hiatus, the Tactics Ogre series is returning with a sequel entitled Tactics Ogre: Wheel of Fate. It will be a remake of the original Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together from the Super NES period with the return of series architect Yasumi Matsuno along with his other peers, Hiroshi Minagawa, Akihiko Yoshida, Tsubasa Masao, Hitoshi Sakimoto, and Masaharu Iwata. This particular installment will feature a revision of the original game's story, along with some new characters and scenarios being written by Matsuno himself. Minagawa will take directorial role while Yoshida and Masao are designing the characters and Sakimoto and Iwata are doing the music.

The game will also embrace the original graphical design but with a more modern tinge along with the game taking a new approach despite the "remake" moniker being attached. It is stated by Famitsu thusly:

If you developed and played Tactics Ogre in this day and age, it would be like this.

  1. This is a welcome development, though an original title would be ideal. Yasumi Matsuno is for real hands-on on the project?

  3. This is cool news. I've regretted not getting the PlayStation port back when I could (I remember being in the store and saying no). Of course, this would mean buying a PlayStation Portable. I guess we'll see.

Either way, I'm glad Matsuno is back working on his baby. We can only hope that Square Enix's next big foray into the world of Ivalice has him back on board as well. That world was far too interesting to be dropped or passed on to somebody else just because Matsuno left the company.

  4. @Nels You still don't have a PSP? How on earth do you play Lumines and Patapon?
