Konami drops HD bombshell
Konami has announced at a pre-E3 presentation that there will be HD re-releases of the Metal Gear Solid series (with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker included), Zone of the Enders series (with both Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner included) and Silent Hill series (with Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 included).
Konami have noted they will be using the special editions of titles (such as Subsistence for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and the special edition of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner for these compilations. The releases will not be emulated, rather full-blown PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 software.
All releases will have HD graphics, widescreen support and 'transfarring' support (as dubbed by Hideo Kojima. This term refers to the ability for save data to be shared between portable devices, in Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker's case to the PlayStation Portable. Also worthy of note is that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will only be able to 'transfar' to the NGP as Hideo Kojima has pointed out the PlayStation Portable is not powerful enough to handle either title.1
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker's HD edition has a current release date of November 2011 in Japan, as does the compilation title including both Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The Zone of the Enders series HD pack is currently slated for 2012. At this stage Silent Hill HD Collection has no release date.
